This order authorizes the City Manager to accept and appropriate $360,100 from MaineHealth for tobacco prevention. The Tobacco Prevention Program works to reduce youth tobacco initiation and exposure to secondhand smoke by implementing tobacco free policies in and providing supports to municipalities, schools, universities, work sites, multi-unit housing, hospitals and other settings. FY21 is year five of a five-year Maine Prevention Services grant to provide tobacco prevention services in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. Whereas; the city is currently receiving grant funds from MaineHealth for the Tobacco Prevention, and Whereas; this is the fifth year of a five year grant supporting Tobacco Prevention, and Whereas; the city wishes to continue to support this program that works to reduce youth tobacco initiation and exposure to secondhand smoke by implementing tobacco free policies in and providing supports to municipalities, schools, universities, work sites, multi-unit housing, hospitals and other settings. Be it Resolved by the City Council of the City of Bangor that, the City Manager is authorized to accept and appropriate $360,100 in funding from MaineHealth for the Tobacco Prevention Program.
