This Resolve Authorizes the City Manager to Accept and Appropriate $358,399 from the University of New England for the Supplemental Nutrition Education Program (SNAP ED). FY21 is year three of a five-year grant to provide nutrition education to SNAP eligible residents of Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. These are federal funds, passed from USDA through Maine's Office of Family Independence to the University of New England who manages the SNAP Education Program statewide. Bangor Public Health has been administering the SNAP education program locally since 2012. Whereas; The City of Bangor's Public Health Department has been administering a SNAP ED Program since 2012, and Whereas; grant funding in the amount of $358,399 is available through the University of New England to support this program, and Whereas; the City of Bangor wished to continue to provide this program. Be it Resolved by the City Council of the City of Bangor that, the City Manager is authorized to Accept and Appropriate $358,399 for the Supplemental Nutrition Education Grant Program from the University of New England for a One Year Period Beginning October 1, 2020.
