Summary This ordinance will amend Chapter 165 Land Development Code to rezone a .29 acres of property located at 332 and 336 Broadway (Map 46, Lots 24 and 24A) from Urban Residential District 1 (URD -1) to Multifamily and Service District (M&SD). The applicant is Penquis CAP, Inc., who would like to construct elderly housing. The subject properties are currently used as residential dwellings. The applicant wishes to demolish the buildings and construct affordable elderly housing adjacent to St Joseph's Hospital. This effort is in keeping with the tenets of the 2012 Comprehensive Plan to seek partnerships with local institutions to create more elderly housing, as well as the Housing Workgroup Recommendations to create more affordable housing. The City Council also has a goal to seek locations for more housing units in the city, and having those units near services.
