CITY OF BANGOR, MAINE
Engineering Department
August 7, 1980
To the Municipal Officers:
Pursuant to City Council Order No. 249 AB passed July 28,
1980, directing the City Engineer to take action on the discon-
tinuance of Prince Street extending east from Broadway to the
former right-of-way line of Laurel Street, the following report
is submitted:
The right-of-way of Prince Street is a dedicated right-of-
way which was never constructed or used for street purposes,
origginally shown on a Plan entitled "Plan Showing the Property
of Cbarles Woodman, George H. Hamlin, and Louie Eirstein,
Hillside, Bangor Maine, September 1899 by George H. Hamlin,
C.E., Resurveyed in 1908 by R. E. Mullaney, C.E." said Plan
being recorded in Penobscot Registry of Deeds in 31an Book 9,
Page 7. Said right-of-way is described as follows:
A 50 -foot wide right-of-way, the centerline of which inter-
sects the easterly right-of-way line of Broadway 373.00 feet
south from the southerly right -o£ -way line of Chapin Street,
as measured along said easterly right-of-way line of Broadway;
thence at right angles to said Broadway right-of-way line a
distance of 756.7 feet to the former westerly right-of-way
line of Laurel Street. Said right -o£ -way was originally laid
out to a width of 50 feet, measuring 25 feet on either side of
the above-described centerline.
In accordance with the requirements of 23 M.R.S.A., Sec.
3026 and 3027, notice was given to the sole abutting owner,
being the Maine Broadcasting Company. In this instance, the
petition for said discontinuance was initiated by said Maine
Broadcasting Company.
The question of discontinuance was referred to the Planning
Board at their regular meeting on Monday, August 49 1980, and the
Planning Board at that time voted to recommend for said discon-
tinuance. A copy of a report from the Planning Officer in this
regard is attached.
Inasmuch as the right-of-way was never constructed or used
for street purposes, no damages are recommended as a result of
its discontanuance.
It is recommended that said Prince Street right-of-way be
discontinued and vacated.
Respectfully submitted,
Eno. Jo.oFrawleyjjC ty Engineer
