Miller, City Solicitor RE: Council Order 981-211 ]Condemnation of Property at 107-109 Cumberland Street] on your agenda f0[ consideration at yourext meeting i e Council Order calling for the condemnation of the above indicated property. The property is owned by the William Henry Griffin Heirs and the Heirs Of Kathleen A. McCarthy. Mr. Griffin's Estate is being probated in the Penobscot County Probate Court. However, we hive run into a snag because of a question over whom his heir are. We have a similar problem with the Kathleen McCarthy Heirs. We know of two individuals who lived in 1966 in Portland. However, we havenot beenabletoe ex ascertain their act whereabouts. I a working with dim Mooney, attorney for the William Griffin Estate, to locate all people having an interest in the property. Iam hesitant to recommend that the Council proceed to demolish the structure based simply upon the published notice that we have given without making further attempts to locate people having a possible property interest in the real 'estate. For these reasons, I reluctantly must ask that you open the public hearing, and receive any testimony that may be - given by those who have been contacted orwish t speak. However. I request that you continue the matter for4 weeks in order that we can make another attempt t0 locate the parties at interest. R.E.M. City Manamseg ty Cid - August 17, 1991 Russell J. McKenna -City Clerk Bangor City Hall Bangor, Maine 04401 Dear Sir: In regard to your letter of July 15, 1981, please be advised that 107-109 Cumberland Street, Bangor does not belong to our family. Refer to 17 M.R.S.A. 2651 at seq. After we were served with this paper,. we went to Bangor City Hall and checked this out. We found that Mary Griffin had a friend who lived in this house with her named Kate McCarthy, no relation of ours. Sorry we have taken so long to reply to your latter. Incerelt, Joseph McCarthy - 19 Willow St. Ellsworth, Maine 04605
