The City has a number of stormwater responsibilities, including maintaining stormwater infrastructure, enforcing stormwater maintenance requirements, overseeing the stormwater utility, and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and rules. While a number of different City departments are involved in different City stormwater responsibilities, oversight of City stormwater efforts in recent years has primarily been through the Engineering Department. This ordinance amendment would recognize this by making the Engineering Department responsible for overseeing and supervising the stormwater system. This amendment addresses the goal of demonstrating leadership in storm water management to protect surface water.
