Pledging Support of the U.S. DOT's Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking Initiative to Commit to
Employee Education and Raising Public Awareness.
This Resolve will pledge support of the U.S. DOT's Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking
initiative. The DOT urges transportation leaders and stakeholders to join in combating human
trafficking within the transportation industry by signing this pledge. This initiative illustrates a
commitment to leadership, support and solidarity in the battle against human trafficking. The
transportation industry is taking a united stand to help stop the flow of human trafficking through
America's transportation system. This pledge focuses on 5 key areas and connects transportation
stakeholders to available resources on industry leadership, industry training and education, policy
development, public awareness, and information sharing and analysis with the ultimate goal of
ending human trafficking.
This item was discussed at a City Council Workshop on February 10, 2020 and meets the Council's
goal to "Ensure the safety of all who live, work, and visit the City."
Staff recommends approval.

Pledging Support of the U.S. DOT's Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking Initiative to Commit to
Employee Education and Raising Public Awareness.
WHEREAS, the City of Bangor, Maine is the owner of an airport located in Bangor, County of Penobscot, State
of Maine, commonly known as Bangor International Airport; and
WHEREAS, This Resolve will pledge support of the U.S. DoT's Transportation Leaders Against Human
Trafficking initiative; and
WHEREAS, The DoT urges transportation leaders and stakeholders to join in combating human trafficking
within the transportation industry by signing this pledge; and
WHEREAS, The transportation industry is taking a united stand to help stop the flow of human trafficking
through America's transportation system;
WHEREAS, This pledge focuses on 5 key areas and connects transportation stakeholders to available
resources on industry leadership. industry training and education, policy development, public awareness, and
information sharing and analysis;
WHEREAS, The goal is to unite efforts across the transportation sector to help reach the ultimate goal of
eliminating human trafficking.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, THAT
The City of Bangor Bangor hereby pledges its support of the U.S. DoT's Transportation Leaders Against
Human Trafficking initiative to Commit to Employee Education and Raising Public Awareness; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT
The Airport Director is hereby authorized to sign the pledge on behalf of the Bangor International Airport.

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking initiative
calls on all transportation industry leaders to join us in our commitment to employee education,
raising public awareness, and measuring our collective impact by signing this voluntary pledge.
We pledge with one voice as national leaders to join with partners across the
transportation industry to work together and end human trafficking by:
* Educating our employees and organizational members on how to
recognize and report signs of human trafficking
* Raising awareness among the traveling public on human trafficking issues by utilizing
common messaging in targeted outreach campaigns
* Measuring our collective impact on human trafficking by tracking and sharing key data points
By uniting our efforts across the transportation sector, we will see greater progress
in reaching our ultimate goal of eliminating human trafficking.
