PANCREATIC CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

WAEREAS, In 2019, more than 56,770 Americans will be diagnosed with Pancreatic
Cancer and among the different types of cancer, Pancreatic Cancer has the
lowest survival rate; and
WHEREAS, Pancreatic Cancer is usually diagnosed too late for surgical removal because
there are no detection tools to diagnose the disease in its early stages; and
WHEREAS, Pancreatic Cancer may cause only vague symptoms that could indicate many
different conditions within the abdomen or gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms
include pain (usually abdominal or back pain), weight loss, jaundice, loss of
appetite, nausea, changes in stool, and w•" and
WHEREAS, Purple Iris Foundation is working locally to help win the battle against
Pancreatic Cancer by building awareness and promoting early detection while
giving hope and support to those waging the fight; and
WHEREAS, Purple Iris Foundation is lighting the night purple for hope, to bring awareness
to the community, and honor loved ones; and
WHEREAS, The City of Bangor pledges to light City Hall and urges community members

NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Sarah Nichols, Mayor of the City of Bangor, on behalf of the City
• and the citizens • Bangor, •s -• proclaim November to •- Pancreatic Cancer
Awareness Month in the City of Bangor and recognizes the important efforts undertaken by the
Purple Iris Foundation to help win the battle against Pancreatic Cancer, and offers our thanks
