HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-10-07 Airport Committee Minutes City of Bangor Airport Committee rd City Council Chambers 3 Floor October 7, 2019 Meeting Minutes The following City Councilors were in attendance: Airport Committee Chair Dan Tremble, Council Chair Sarah Nichols, Councilors Clare Davitt, Gretchen Schaefer, Ben Sprague and Laura Supica. Also in attendance were City Manager Cathy Conlow, Airport Director Tony Caruso and Airport Marketing Manager Aimee Thibodeau. Agenda and Discussion: Airport Director updated City Councilors on the United aircraft that diverted to Bangor due to mechanical issues early this morning. 1. Office Lease – Maine Highlands Airport Director Caruso requested Committee approval for an Order authorizing the City Manager to execute a lease agreement with Maine Highlands for an office rental in our General Aviation Terminal. Maine Highlands has been a GA tenant for more than 5 years. The organization is part of the Maine Tourism Marketing Partnership Program (MTMPP) which develops and implements programs designed to stimulate and expand the travel industry within Maine’s tourism regions. Motion made, seconded and approved. The lease agreement will be presented to the City Council for final approval. 2. Airport Construction Updates a. Taxiway A(lpha) – This is a multi-year project to reconstruct this taxiway that parallels the Runway. The South end is complete so they have moved to the North end. b. Godfrey Boulevard – Paving will begin this week. c. General Aviation Terminal – We’ve been gradually working on Terminal interior improvements. The latest activity has been removing a wall to open up the lobby area. We will soon begin work on kitchen and conference room enhancements 3. Airport Statistics – August 2019 Marketing Manager Thibodeau reported that August was another record month for domestic passengers with a 2% increase over 2018. August was also a record month for American. Strong load factors continue for all airlines. Operational Statistics look good. 4. Maine Communities Grant Program – Application Request Airport Director Caruso requested Committee approval for an Order authorizing the Airport to submit a grant application to the Maine Communities Grant program. Marketing Director Thibodeau explained that the purpose of the grant, if awarded, would be to fund a portion of the cost of creating new video content for phase II of the Airport’s website redesign. This content could also be used for other marketing and social media campaigns. Motion made, seconded and approved. The request will be presented to the City Council for final approval. 5. Airport Advertising/Marketing Plan Update Marketing Director Thibodeau provided the Committee with an update on our Marketing Plan, with a focus on our Social Media Playbook. Current projects include website enhancements, a separate Facebook group for frequent travelers, more frequent Facebook postings and regular blogging. Councilors recommended increased Twitter postings, which is also included in a later phase of the plan. Meeting Adjourned.
