The City Code allows the City to impound vehicles for unpaid parking tickets by either towing them or immobilizing them in place. The City recently passed Council Ordinance 19-362, which moved the fee for impoundment by immobilization to the City's Schedule of Fees. This is in preparation for using new self-releasing boots, which can be released remotely after parking fines have been paid. This Order would set the immobilization fee at $75, which is the amount recommended by the City's parking contractor to account for the cost of using the new boots. The ordinance also requires outstanding fees to be paid before the boot is released.
