The Parks and Recreation Center has been identified as a shelter location in the event of severe weather or other conditions. As such, renovations were required to the facility which included shower and kitchen renovations as well as the need for a standby generator in the event of a power outage. The City received a grant from Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) to fund the kitchen and shower renovations in the amount of $51,200. The City once again applied to MEMA for grant funding in the amount of $32,000 to fund the standby generator. This would complete the needed building changes to accommodate emergency sheltering needs. We have been informed that our grant request to MEMA was denied. It is proposed that funding come from a FEMA reimbursement from the storm on October 30, 2017 and be carried forward to FY 2020 to fund the purchase of a standby generator for the Parks and Rec Center.
