Mrs. Michael Clark
Chairman Bangor Schaal Board
185 Norfolk Street
Bangor, Maine 04401
Dear Chairman Clark:
As you know I en running fora seat on the Bangor City Council.
I have greatly enjoyed serving with you on the School Board but feel
that now is the time for me to offer my services in this matter. I think
that the experiances acquired serving on the School Board were great
training for this higher office. " I am proud of the many things we were
able to accomplish Ingather and have agonized over the decision to make
this bide n though a year remains
on my School Board term.
The City elections will be held on October 11. That means that if
I am elected at that time (something of which I am not certain) a special
election would be caused to occur in January or later. I Was originally
elected ata similar event and know that would cost my fellow taxpayers
about $2,800.00. My original campaign was based on fiscal responsibility.
Through out that campaign and my second run for office two years ago
I have attempted to keep that responsibility well in mind.
With that thought in mind I hereby resign from my position with
the Bangor Superintending School Committee effective November 4, 1983.
This action will hopefully, allow the City Council to establish a special
election to fill my vacancy to coincide with the November general elections
to be held on November 11. 1 do not make this decision lightly as it
may very well result in my not being able to hold either office, but
in fairness for thelargergood see it as a step I must take.
Because of the shortness of the timeremaining I will send a copy
of this letter to the City and School Departments and the Mayor.
Sincerly,
Lia.
