Railroad Tracks Across Railroad Street

RESOLVED. THAT, WHEREAS, the Maine Central Railroad Company has
petitioned the Koine Department of Transportation to install auto-
matic highway grade crossing protection at the Maine Central Railroad
tracks crossing Railroad Street, said protection to include auto-
matic gates and flashing lights, and
WHEREAS, the system as proposed will severely restrict the move -_-
meat of vehicular traffic along Railroad Street and portions of Front
Street, and
WAERBAS, the increased use of the waterfront areas along Front
Street will be hindered by the restricted use of the Railroad Street
crossing by vehicular traffic, and
WHEREAS, history has shown that the use of flagmen to control
vehicular traffic on the Railroad Street crossing to be 'extremely
safe and efficient,
ROW, THEREFORE, Be It
RESOLVED,THAT the City Council of the City of Bangor wishes to
express it's disapproval of the proposal to substitute automatic
signal devices for the present control of the crossing by flagmen,
and hereby authorizes the City Manager to convey the City Council's
displeasure to the Maine Department of Transportation.
