Title, Order
Authorizing Execution of a Contract with Industrial Scientific in the Amount of $116,433 to Provide and
Maintain Gas Meters for a Four Year Period
The City of Bangor and the Bangor School Department, uses fourteen (14) Ventis MX4 Multi-Gas
meters to assess the atmosphere prior to and during a permit-required confined space entry. These
meters, which are required by the Maine Department of Labor Public Sector Workplace Safety &
Health Regulations, monitor oxygen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide and flammable vapors
within the confined space to ensure employees are not being exposed to contaminant levels that can
cause serious injury or death.
In order to ensure these meters are in proper working order throughout the year, the City has
maintained a service contract for the lease, calibration and maintenance of the equipment since
2010. The contract also provides departments with access to an online software to remotely review
the operational and calibration status of the meters.
All departments are pleased with the ease of use of the equipment and software, durability of the
equipment and customer service of the company. The new contract will cover a four (4) year period
for $2,425.69 per month or $116,433.12 for the life of the contract. The cost of the contract is
shared amongst the Fire Department, Airport, Public Works, Parks & Recreation, Waste Water
Treatment, Sewer and the Bangor School Department and included in the respective budgets.
