Acceptance and Execution of a Grant Amendment in the amount of $9,999.00 to the Women, Infants, and
Children (WIC) Nutrition Program from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
On August 27, 2018 resolve 18-342 was passed to accept and appropriate grant funds in the amount
of $2,462,963.00 for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program from the Maine
Department of Health and Human Services. This order will allow an amendment for additional funds
in the amount of $9,999.00. These additional funds are for staff training and professional
development for 5 employees, furniture/supplies, outreach items, and salary to increase one
part-time employee hours for clinic coverage. Professional development and staff training are
essential in providing up-to-date, evidence based Nutrition and Breastfeeding information to WIC
participants. Furniture/supply items are for waiting room chairs and guest office chairs. Outreach
items are used for teachable moments and to promote and encourage behavioral change. Outreach
items also assist in reaching potential participants who are unaware of WIC or unsure of how to
access WIC.

Children (WIC) Nutrition Program from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
Whereas; the City of Bangor has previously accepted $2,462,963.00 in grant funds from the Maine
Department of Health and Human Services for the WIC Nutrition Program, and
Whereas; the Maine Department of Health and Human Services has additional funds in the amount of
$9,999.00 to provide to the WIC Nutrition Program
Be it Ordered by the City Council of the City of Bangor that, the City Manager is authorized to amend resolve
18-342 and accept an additional $9,999.00 in WIC Nutrition Program funds provided through the Maine
Department of Health and Human Services.
