WHEREAS, High-quality early childhood programs provide important benefits to children, families and our
WHEREAS, These organizations are celebrating the Week of the Young Child T" on April 27, 2019; and
WHEREAS, The Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize that children's opportunities are our
responsibilities, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences
the type of early environment—at home, at child care, at school, and in the community—that
will promote their early learning.
NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Sarah Nichols, Mayor of Bangor, on behalf of the City Council and the City of Bangor,
do hereby proclaim April 22-28, 2019 as the Week of the Young Child in Bangor, ME and encourage all citizens
to work, support, and invest in early childhood in Bangor.
Given this the 22nd day of April, 2019.

state and nation's economies; and
WHEREAS,
High-quality early childhood education depends on high-quality early childhood educators
who ensure that children, supported by families, have the early experiences they need for a
strong foundation; and
WHEREAS,
Participation in high-quality early childhood education saves taxpayer dollars, makes working
families more economically secure, and prepares children to succeed in school, earn higher
wages, and live healthier lives; and
WHEREAS,
Young children need skilled, educated, competent, consistent, and compensated early
childhood educators, and developmentally appropriate, accessible, and available early care
and education settings; and
WHEREAS,
Working families need an affordable, mixed -delivery early childhood education system that
allows them to choose between many high-quality options when selecting the setting that
best meets their needs; and
WHEREAS,
Early childhood educators need opportunities to acquire critical skills, knowledge, and
competencies through pathways to credentials and higher education degrees, without
incurring college debt, and the ability to earn a worthy wage that is commensurate with the
required education and skills they bring to the complex and valuable work they do; and
WHEREAS,
The Maine Discovery Museum, Food AND Medicine, and Faith Linking In Action, in
conjunction with the Maine Association for the Education of Young Children (MaineAEYC)
and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), are working to
promote and inspire high quality early childhood experiences for our state's youngest
citizens, that can provide a foundation of learning and success for children in Bangor; and
WHEREAS, These organizations are celebrating the Week of the Young Child T" on April 27, 2019; and
