CITY OF BANGOR
(TITLE.) P3aVJVeJ in Support of Proposal t Stabilize Property Tax

RESOLVED,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City Of Bangor recognizes the
immediate need for property tax relief for Maine's municipalities; and
WHEREAS, a proposal has been set forth by the Maine Municipal
Association to increase the State Municipal Revenue Sharing Program
to be funded in part through enactment of a meals and lodging tax
set at 78; and
WHEREAS,, this legislative proposal would result in additional
State Municipal Revenue Sharing r s to the City of Bangor of
$403,282 in the first year, and $604,923 in the second year; and
WHEREAS, these funds would be of great help to the City of
Bangor in stabilizing its property taxes; and
WHEREAS, this proposal would provide funds to promote tourism
n Maine and would provide a mechanism for people from outside the
State to share in paying for municipal services from which they
benefit (maintenance of roads, police and fire protection, sanitation,
etc.(;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of. the
City of Bangor endorses the initiative to adjust the meals and
lodging tax as described herein to assist Maine municipalities i
'their efforts to stabilize the regressive property tax and provide
�' them with additional State Municipal Revenue Sharing funds. _.
