— THAT the provisions of Chapter 11, Articles 17 and 37 be repealed
and replaced with the following:
CHAPTER II
ARTICLE 17 - CODE ENFORCEMENT DEPARTMENT
Sec. 1 Code Enforcement Department Created. In accordance
With Article
V, Section 2(a) of the City Charter, the Code
Enforcement Department is established.
Sec. 2 Functions of the Code Enforcement Department. It shall
be the
function of the Code Enforcement Department to adminster
and enforce all ordinances and state. d23tgtes.*eoming -
within its jurisdiction, including, but not limited to,
the BOCA Basic National Building Code, SOCA Basic
.Property Maintenance Code, State Plumbing Regulations,
BOCA Basic Mechanical Code, National Electrical Code,
Zoning Ordinances, Bangor Center Revitalization Area
Ordinance, One and Two Family Dwelling Code, and Historic
Preservation ordinance.
Sec. 3 Director of Code Enforcement, There is hereby authorized
and established the position
Of Director of Code Enforcement. The Director shall super-
vise the entire operation of the Code Enforcement Department.
The position shall be included in the Personnel Classification
and Compensation Plan of the City of Bangor. The Director
of Code Enforcement shall be appointed by the City Manager
on the basis of merit and fitness alone, subject to
confirmation by the City Council.
3.1 Other Enforcement Officials. The following officials
shall be employed in
the Code Enforcement Department, and their activities
shall be under the direct supervision and control of
the Director. All said officials shall be appointed
by the Director on the basis of fitness and
merit alone, subject to confirmation by. the
City Manager. All of said positions shall
beincluded in the Personnel Classification
and Compensation Plan for the City of
Bangor.

(b) Plumbing Inspectors)
(c) Electrical Inspector(s)
(d) Housing Inspector(s)
(e) Sanitarian(s)
(£) Cede Enforcement Officer(s)
Sec. 9: Duties. The Code Enforcement Department shall perform
all such duties as may be required by law on
thepart of its various named enforcement officials,
and such other duties as may be assigned from time to
time by the City Council or the City Manager.
Statement of Fact: The purpose of this Ordinance is to repeal
obsolete and unnecessary provisions of the City's administrative
ordinances relating to the operation of the Code Enforcement
Department.
