Honorable City Councilmen
The 101st Air Refueling Wing, Maine Air National Guard requests that the
Maine Avenue Extension street sign which runs North of Griffin Road to
the Maine Air National Guard entry gate be redesignated to MAINEiac Avenue.
MAINEiacs is the Maine Air Guard's logo which is; used in a variety of ways
and is known Worldwide to other Air Guard units and in manly foreign countries.
The MAINEiacs logo is located under the cargo door of each of our eight
KC -135 stratotankers and aircrews wear MAINEiac cloth patches on their
flight suits and jackets.
We have an organization named MAINEiac Charities which through fund raising
efforts of Guard members contributes to such worthy causes as The Ronald
McDonald House, Special Olympics, March of Dimes, Levinson Center, and Jaws
of Life for the Bangor Fire Department.
The MAINEiacs logo can most accurately be described as a goodwill symbol,
a symbol of the dedication, loyalty and services that Maine Air Guard
members provide not only to the State of Maine and their country but also
to the Bangor community at large. We believe that a street named in their
honor would be fitting tribute to them and we earnestly request your -
consideration in this matter.
Sincerely l
