PROGRAM ASSISTANT
for
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
DEFINITION
B5-145
This is a staff position in the Economic Development Department
which provides direct assistance to the Economic Development
director in the area of special projects and programs, .both short
term and on-going, relating to downtown marketing, industrial/
commercial development and airport, international and resource
development.
The work involves a responsibility for initiative and supervisory
work under the direction of the development director for carrying
out these projects and programs. These will include research,
report writing, marketing, loan processing, real estatework,
building management, international resource development, prep -
ration of promotional materials andefforts, and other work in
which the department is involved.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
The incumbent will be required to undertake the gathering and
evaluation of information from a variety of sources, including
telephone and mail surveys; compiling statistics and writing
reports; assisting in the creation of land subdivisions; direct
work with local businesses on relocation, expansion and loan
assistance; marketing, assembling and evaluation of loan requests
and documents, and reporting and recommending on loans which may
involve local, regional, federal and private lending programs and
institutions.
The incumbent will also be working as a program assistant and
coordinator in accounting for non-profit corporation, management
of real estate land and buildings, free trade zone operational
liaison and supervision under the development director; and
various document processing, development of pro -formas and the
like. The incumbent also will be providing direct assistance i
the preparation and programming of promotional materials and cam-
paigns.
.Priority obligations will relate to the loan programs, local
business contacts for expansions and relocations, management
of industrial building and land.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Experience in industrial/Commercial loans with the ability to
understand financial statements, cash flow charts, business
pro -formas and the like. -
Experience in real estate transactions, leases and property
management.
Experience in research and report writing. -
Working knowledge of government economic development programs.
The ability to .work compatibly and positively with business
people, banking representatives, governmental people.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a four-year college or university, with special-
ization in fields related.to business or
economic development, and
experience in working with loans and realestate, or
A minimum of two year post education certificate, and extensive
knowledge and experience in the fields of lending and real estate.
