THAT Chapter VIII, Article 3, Section 2 of the Laws and Ordinances
e£ the City of Bangor be amended by adding the following:
Manufactured hou ina: A structural unit or -Unita designed for occupancy,
and constructed in a manufacturing facility and
then transported by the use of its own chassis, or placed on an indepen-
dent chassis, to a building site. For the purpose of this Ordinance,
the term manufactured housing shall include the following:
(1) Units constructed after June. 15, 1976, commonly called
"newer mobile homes," which the manufacturer certifies are
constructed in compliance with the .United States. Depart-
ment of Housing and Urban Development standards, meaning
structures, transportable in one or more sections, which,
in the traveling mode, are 14 body feet or more in width and
are 750 ormore square feet, and which are built on a per-
manent chassis and designed to be used as dwellings, with or
withoutpermanent foundations, when connected to the required
utilities, including the plumbing, heating, air conditioning
and electrical systems contained therein: except that the
term shall include any structure which .meets all the require-
ments of this paragraph, except the a requirements and
with respect to which the manufacturer voluntarily files a
certification required by ,the Secretary of the United States
Department of Housing and Urban Development and complies with
. the standards established under the National Manufactured
Housing Construction and Safety.Standards Act of 1974, United
States Code, Title 42, Section 5401, et.seq; and
(2) Units commonly called"modular homes," whichthe manufacturer
certifies are constructed in compliance.with the State of
Maine Manufactured Housing Act, and regulations, meaning
structures, transportable in one or more sections, which are
constructed on a permanent chassis and are designed to be
used as dwellings on foundations when connected to required
utilities, including the plumbing,. heating,. air-conditioning
or electrical. systems contained therein.

In order for the above-described units to qualify as manufactured
housing under this Ordinance, suchunits shall also:
(1) Be not less than 14 feet in width.
(2) Have a pitched, shingled roof with a minimum pitch of
3inches 'rise to 12 inches of "run."
(3) Have exterior siding that is residential in appearance,
such as brick or masonry veneers,
eers,stucco or exterior
plaster, wood siding, wood shingles, aluminum or vinyl
siding simulating a clapboard pattern, or hardboard siding.
(4) Have a permanent foundation which complies with the require-
ments of Article 10 of the BOCA Basic/National Building
Code/1984, as adopted. by Chapter IX of the Laws and
Ordinances of the City of Bangor, and any amendments,
replacements or substitutions thereof.
(5) Be anchored to the permanent foundation in accordance with
the requirements of Section 613.3.1 of the above -referenced
Code, and any amendments, replacements, or substitutions
thereof.

meeting on November 19, 1984 held a public hearing on the above
zoning amendment. After considerable discussion as to the
provisions of the manufactured housing statute which define
manilfactured housing, the Planning Board voted five in favor and
none opposed to recommend passage of the above zoning amendment.

plaster, wood siding, woodshingles, aluminum or vinyl
siding simulating a clapboard pattern, or hardboard aiding.
(5) Have a permanent foundation which complies with the require-
ments of Article 10 of the BOCA Basic/National Building
Code/1984, as adopted by Chapter. IN of the Laws and
Ordinances of the City of Bangor, and any amendments,
replacements or substitutions thereof.
(6) Be anchored to the permanent foundation in accordance with

thereof.
