B OLVDD, THAT WHEREAS the Board of Trustees of the University
of Maine. System currently is examining the possible relocation
of the Chancellor's headquarters and key staff people from Bangor
to Augusta, for the expressed purpose of establishing a greater
'presence' in the state capitol in proximity to the Maine legis-
lature and other agencies; and
WHEREAS, thisstated purpose can easily be ac omplished from
the present location of the Chancellor's office in Bangor, and
relocation to Augusta Would result insplitting the administra-
tion' of the University of Maine System create a difficult and
inefficient administration, and unnecessary and burdensome costs;

WHEREAS, the present location in Bangor is ideal for proper and
efficient administering of the entire University system of cam -
poses and contains excellent and convenient transportation and
other services forthis purpose unparalled by locations in
Augusta or elsewhere; and
WHEREAS, such a move and even serious examination of such a move
is creating a public perception throughout the State of Maine of
further erosion and damage to the needs and improvement of the
flagship campus at Orono;
THEREFORE, NOW BE IT
RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Bangor that this
body and Community expresses its strong objections to considera-
tion of such a move and urges the Board of Trustees of the Univer-
sity of Maine System to act as soon as possible to reject such a
move.
