APPLICATION FOR FEOERAL ASSISTANCE
AIRPORT IMPROVEMENTS
BANGOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
1. GENERAL
The proposed project will be located at Bangor International Airport,
Bangor, Maine. The Airport was former Dow Air Force Base, which
s closed and turned over to the City of Bangor in 1968/69. The beavy
duty runway, taxiway Bad apron facilities accommodate any size ci-
vilian or military aircraft. The Airport presently serves domestic and
international air carriers as well as genaral aviation traffic. Units
of the U.B. Air Form Air Defense Czamandand the Maine Army and Air
National Board use the runway taxiway facilities at Bangor International
Airport from separate areas adjacent to the airport property.
2. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project consists of the reconstruction

3. OBJECTIVES
The proposed project will benefit various types of airport users and wide
range of aircraft from air carrier to general aviation aircraft. The pro-
posed improvements will Upgrade existing facilities and provide for increased
safety and convenience for airport users.
The proposed project provides for the following:
A. Installation of Airport Signs.
Mere is currently no airport roadway Signing to direct airport
users to the numerous
airport facilities. This project would
develop and installa uniform signing system for Airport road-
ways, and provide guidance signs in the terminal area.
B. Commuter Ramp Expansion and Reconstruction.
The expansion to the existing terminal ramp isneeded to increase

the capacity of the overloaded facility. Reconstruction of
part of Neexisting facility is reguied for strengtbening and
frost protection of the pavement.
4. GEOGRAPHIC VOCATION
Bangor International Airport is located just east of the central portion
Of the Share Of Maine in Penobscot County. The Airport is tWo miles from
dcontown Bangor and appxroximately 25 miles from the Atlantic coast. The
primary service
aof the Airport inclines the Cities of BUIXaport. Old
Town, and Orono and other towns with a 30- radius. The secondary servlCe
area includes much larger portion of the State s itis the Strts's
largest airport currently served by a certified air
