recorded in City of Bangor Road Book 2, Page 94, for adistance
of 120 feet, more or leas, to the southerly right-of-way line of
Water Street, said point of intersection being 89 feet, more or
less, west from the 'westerly right-of-way line of Broad Street
as measured alon§ said Water Street right-of-way line; thence
North 80 08' 30 West along said southerly right-of-way line
of Water Street for a distance of 201 feet, more or less, to the
point of beginning. Meaning and intending to describe a portion
of the Fore Street right-of-way as originally laid out on October
16, 1838 and described in City of Bangor Road Book 2, Pape 81 as
widened on the easterly side on July 19, 1851, recorded un City
of Bangor Road Book 2, Page 94, and as further widened on the
westerly side on February 4, 1871, as described in City of Bangor
Road Book 2, Page 440.
The shove mentioned City records indicate that the name of
Fore Street was changed to Wall Street Place when it was widened
on the easterly side on July 19, 1851. There is no exact record
as to when the name was formally changed to Pickering Square;
however, the first formal mention of the name Pickering Square
was made when the way was further widened in a westerly direction
on February 41 1871, and the area was further accepted, confirmed,
designated and established as Pickering Square by the City Council
on October 13, 1930.

In accordance with 23 M.R.S.A., Section 3026, notice was
given to the Planning Board of the proposed discontinuance, and
since the City of Bangor is the only owner of property abutting
the area to be discontinued, no further notices were sent; how-
ever, the notice was published in the Bangor Daily News, and was
posted in the vicinity of the discontinuance as described. above.
The purpose of the discontinuance is to prepare the subject
area for inclusion with other adjacent City -owned property for
eventual conveyance to a private developer for redevelopment,
which is considered to be in the best intereste.of the City.
No person or persons appeared at the time and place set for
the hearnag. Since the City of Bangor is the only abutting property
owner, no damages are recommended to be paid as a result of said
discontinuance. It is further recommended that no public easement
be retained.
It is recommended that the above described portion of Pickering
Square be discontinued as a public way, and that it be removed from
the Official City Map. A Plan showing the area to be so discontinued
is on file in the Office of the City Engineer.
