Appropriating $170,000 in School Construction Reserve Funds within the Capital Fund to Fund a School
Facility Assessment
This Resolve will appropriate $170,000 in School Construction Reserve Funds for a facility
assessment of the schools. The School Department recently issued a Request for Proposal, as
recommended by the Department of Education, to conduct a facility assessment as well as review
the capacity, and potential for future growth, renovation, expansion or new construction for
consolidation of its' facilities.
At the January 2, 2019 School Committee meeting, the contract was awarded to Oak Point
Associates to conduct a facility assessment and make recommendations on the future of existing
school buildings. The estimated cost of the project is $170,000.
The City, on behalf of the School Department, maintains a Capital Fund Reserve for School
Construction that is comprised of unused funds from prior projects. The current balance of which is
$263,000.
The School Committee has authorized the expenditure of the above referenced reserve funds for the
purpose of the assessment. As the funds, are held by the City, the attached Resolve will appropriate
the School Construction Reserve funds for the purpose of funding the assessment.

WHEREAS; the City of Bangor, on behalf of the School Department, maintains a school construction reserve
within the Capital Fund; and
WHEREAS, the Reserve is comprised of unused funds from prior School projects; and
WHEREASS, the Department of Education recommended the Schools engage a consultant to provide a facility
assessment and to offer options for our aging school buildings;
Be it Resolved by the City Council of the City of Bangor that, $170,000 is hereby appropriated from the Capital
Fund School Construction Reserve account to fund a school facility assessment.
