Lawrence Willey, Mayor Bangor City Hall 73 Harlow Street Bangor, Maine 04401 Re: Gifford's Famous Ice Cream Offlu 11 TOWN CLERK AND TREASURER 1WENWW ., : February 9, 1987. Dear Mayor Willey and members of the City Council: I am chairman of the Skowhegan Board of Selectmen and Roger Gifford has asked me to write on behalf of Gifford's Famous Ice Cream to support their request for aariance on a lot of land they seek to buy in Bangor in order to open a dairy bar. Giffords currently owns and operates a dairy bar in Skowhega along with a miniture golf course. It is located at the edge of a commercial area and the beginning of a residential area. The dairy bar is very clean, well staffed and well run and is a real asset to this community. It is located next to a motel on the commercial side and a residence on the residential side and there have been no complaints or problems concerning traffic or noisy disturbances. Gifford's dairy bar is a very popular place for families to take their children. Giffords provides ample parking to handle the business and a when they a busy there is no overflow parking o traffic causedVby people trying to get i and out of the dairy bars They keep the premises spotlessly claam and there have been no litter problems associated with it. Gifford's dairy bar has been a real asset to Skowhegan and the Gifford family runs its operation i very friendly and efficient manner. I have no doubt that a Gifford's dairy bar in Bangor would be as much of an asset to whichever part of the Bangor community it locates as it is in Skowhegan.
