HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-08-09 Commission on Cultural Development Minutes City of Bangor, Commission on Cultural Development August 9, 2018 8:30 a.m. Council Chambers, City Hall, 73 Harlow Street, Bangor Attendance: Kim Stewart, Andrea Littlefield, Lovern Stockwell, Allen Adams, Amy Roeder, 1. Welcome Called to order at 8:33AM. 2. Approval of July Meeting Minutes Andrea motion, Lovern second. 3. Funded Grants Update Grants approved: - Bangor Ballet: $3,500 - Bangor Historical Society: $2,400 - Bangor Symphony Orchestra: $5,000 - Penobscot Nation: $3,700 - Andrea Beaulieu: $250 - Zakaria Allaf: $1,000 Beginning balance for FY 2019- $15,882.81 4. Grant Application Update After discussion with city staff, and as the commission has voted to change the 501(c)3 status requirement, we will be making the following changes to the grant application: - Any IRS non-profit status will be eligible to apply - city limits - Individual artists may only apply for grants under $1,000 - Funding will not be granted to those requesting funds for capital expenditures 5. ARTober Update ARTober bid deadline has ended with no responses and no feedback. New approach. Want to get the save the date out for approval before the folk festival. Andrea offered to design. rdth Print to hand out at folk festival. In hand by August 23. Tuesday the 14design in hand. th 15 email vote. Print about Email Kim with ARTober events. ARTober street lamp posters- public works up by last week in September through october. Some $$$ for catering, printing, marketing, etc. Sponsors- UMaine will host reception. Liam reach out to sponsors for $250 each. Maine Edge will spotlight Artober. DBAC- having a party in coespace from 7-9. Our party from 5-7, encourage community to go to DBAC party afterwards. 6. Other Business Karla & Tavi from Penobscot contra dancers, folk dance in Bangor since 2005. Would like to be more visible in the greater Bangor scene. Live folk music and dancing. We promote programs through grant cycles, November and May. ARTober promotes all events in Bangor rdnd leads to promote year round arts. Monthly events- 3 Friday of every month. September- 2 and th 5 Saturdays starting in September. Universalist church. Would love to do a street dance-hoping th for September 7. New URL- haybangor.org rd August 23- scenes and songs of Penobscot theatre co. season. stnd Ten bucks theatre- 24hr play festival- sept. 21 & 22 7. Adjourn Meeting adjourned at 9:14AM.
