BELOW I HAVE EXPLAINED THE PROBLEMS AND NEEDS OF ENGINE 4. AS OF THIS DATE WE HAVE ON LINE AT STATION 6 A 1970 MACK WHICH IS 10 YEARS OLD. AT STATION 5 WE ARE RUNNING A 1967 MACK WHICH IS 21 YEARS OLD. NOW THAT WE HAVE LOST ENGINE 4, WHICH IS OUR SPARE TRUCK, WE AN VERY VULNERABLE IF SOMETHING SHOULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE OF OUR FRONT LINE PIECES. ENGINE ] WOULD BE PUT INTO SERVICE, WHICH IS 2E YEARS O OUR CONCERN WITH THIS TRUCK IS THE CONDITION OF THE PUMP AND MOTOR. OUR MECHANIC CONSULTED WITH MOTOR POOL'S MECHANIC FOR A SECOND OPINION. HE RECOMMENDED NOT TO RELY ON THIS TRUCK VERY HEAVILY AS TH ENGINE HAS A LOT OF "WRISTPIN SLAP" NOT WORTH REPAIRING. WHEN WE RECEIVE OUR NEW LADDER TRUCK, LADDER 5 BECOMES EXPENDABLE AND WE RECOMMEND THAT IT GO OUT FOR BID. ENGINE ] IS ALSO EXPENDABLE AND SHOULD GO OUT FOR BID. WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE MONEY RECEIVED FROM THIS EQUIPMENT GO TO III COST OF REPOWERING ENGINE 4 AND THE MONIES LEFT OVER BE CREDITED TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESERVE ACCOUNT. THE COST OF A NEW MOTOR AND INSTALLATION FOR ENGINE 4 IS $17,500.00 De oFvM rHttd Managers Comments: —TA.f,..r, d Ik 1=.,sa4r._U I 'fA, 9+.. This quote includes all necessary options free tan to flywheel. The following is anestimate of the installation of the above engine. In a much as this 1 of engine manufactures, the only reasonable methodof conversion this is by time and materiel. It is felt that a good figure to shoot for would be around E4500. This would include the purchase of the new clutch and pressure plate. It should be noted that this i an estimate only and not a firm commitment. It is thought that the above figure is probably more than will be rquired and the total will be less. However, there could be some unforseen problems and could require more. Thank you for letting us quote in this matter and we are loking forward to your order.
