Commentary:
The purpose of this ordinance is to amend the provisions relating
to the rates of fare that may be charged by taxicabs operating in
the City. In order to evaluate the 'financial impact of this
proposal, consideration should be given to all of the various
charges permitted under Chapter IV, Article 1, Section 7 of the
City Ordinances, a copy of which is attachad..,�1J

THAT Chapter IV, Article 1, Section ], sub -paragraphs (1) and
(2) of the Ordinances of the City of Bangor are hereby amended to
read as -follows: -
(1). For the first !ne-£££!hs-{9/5q one-sixth (1/6) of

7.1 Additional Passengers. If there is more than one passenger having
the same origin and destination, ell such
passengers shall pay equal proportionate parts of the charges shown
n the taximeter. At the option of the owner of such taxicab, a
additional charge of not more than 25e may be made for each additional
passenger, having the same
origin and destination, as the first passenger.

each passenger shall pay his equal proportionate part of the charges
shown on the taximeter at the first stop, and at each subsequent
stop, the remaining passengers shall each pay their proportionate
part n
of the difference between the amount then shown o the taximeter
and the amount shown by the taximeter mathe next preceding atop.
*7.2 Waiting Time. If, at the request of the passenger, the taxicab waits
for the passenger after the taxicab has arrived at the
Place of origin at the expiration of five (5) minutes after such
taxicab has arrived, the passenger may be charged at s maximum rate
of Ten Dollars ($10.00) per hour, or any such fraction thereof, a
the actual waiting times bears to one (1) hour. No charge shall be
made for waiting time in advance of the time at which the taxicab
Is required in the request for the taxicab service, nor for the
delay due to the inefficiency of the taxicab or its operation, nor
for mileage or time other than proceeding in the most direct way to
the destination.
7.3 Hand Luggage. Hand luggage shall be carried free of charge.
Z4 Sightseeing Taxicabs. Taxicabs may be employed assightseeing taxicabs
at the rate of Ten Dollars ($10.00) per hour.
7.5 Rata Card. Upon the issuance
of a taxicab license, the City Clerk
shall also issue rate of fare card to be displayed in all
taxicabs as required by Section 9 of this Article.
Sec. 8 Taxistands and Soliciting. The Chief of Police, by and with the consent
ent of
the City Manager, is hereby empowered toassign,
to each and every licensed taxicab owner, suitable taxlstand space on public
streets and ways.
8.1 Use of Hydrant Areae. The Chief of Police, in his discretion, by and with
the consent
ent of the City Manager, is hereby empowered
to designate thea a In front of any fire hydrant within the fire limits,
as a taxistand, provided, however, that nay such stand so designated shall
only be used by a taxicab occupied by the driver thereof, and any such
stand so designated may, a any tine, be abolished by the Chief of
Police. The enactment of this section shall in no way contradict or
repeal any part of Section ], Article 28, Chapter LI of the City
Ordinances.

*Sec. 9 Rates of Fare. Fares to be collected from any taxicab passenger
or passengers shall be as shown on the taximeter and
no owner, or driver, shall charge rates to such passenger or passengers
for taxicab services within the limits of the City of Bangor in excess of
' the following:
**(1) For the first two-fifths (2/5) of a mile or fraction thereof,
ninety-five cents (95S);
**(2) For each one-fifth (1/5) of a mile or fraction thereafter, twenty
cents (200;
***(3) Provided, however, in addition to the rates of fare permitted -
under paragraphs (1) and (2) above, a fare of ten cents (100)
rminute may be charged s ctaxicab i
reason of traffic conditions or other circumstances s forced,
byn circumstancess beyond
the driver's control, to travel at a speed of less than ten (10)
miles per hour for a continuous period of more than three and one -
one -half (3§) minutes.
