Maine law governing elections allows municipal officers to appoint persons who are 17 years of age to serve as student election clerks for a specific election. A student election clerk may perform all the functions of an election clerk as prescribed by law. Bangor High School's Government class has volunteered to assist at the November 6, 2018. Not only will this assist the City Clerk's office with staffing needs, it will also provide a great opportunity for the students to learn about the various duties involved with the election as well as the laws that govern the administration of an election. Hopefully, their interest will be sparked and they will want to continue assisting with elections throughout their lives.
