HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-08-09 Historic Preservation Commission Minutes HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BANGOR MEETINGOF AUGUST 9, 2018 MINUTES Commission Members Present: Reese Perkins, Chair George Burgoyne, Secretary Matt Carter, Vice Chair Alfred Banfield, Assoc. Member Mike Pullen, Consultant to HPC City Staff Present: Sean Gambrel, Planning Staff David Gould, Planning Officer Chair Perkinscalled the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. PROJECT REVIEW 1.91 West Broadway –House Revivers, Inc., Applicant Replace 34 wood storm windows with new metal storms Chapter 148 –Historic Preservation, Certificate of Appropriateness Bob Kelley with House Revivers, Inc. presented the application to replace wood storm windows with new aluminum windows. The windows to be replaced are not original. They’ve been approved by HPC and NPS for other projects. Will also restore the wood sash as necessary. Mike Pullen states that the new storm windows would actually be an improvement because of the pane pattern of the existing storm windows are incorrect for the underlying windows. Commissioner Carter moved approval, seconded by Commissioner Burgoyne. Unanimously approved. HISTORIC PRESERVATION PROCESS 2.29 Franklin St – Cressey, Butler & Cohen, Applicant Application to add building to the Great Fire of 1911 District Commissioner Carter reported a conflict of interest, unanimously agreed. Chair Perkins discussed the process and where the application stood. Abe Furth provided an update on the work being done on the property. Mike Pullen asked about determination from the state. Furth stated that there was no update. A tenant of the applicant in other buildings spoke highly of their applicant’s sensitivity to historic features and attention to detail. Tenant strongly supports the project. Emily Tilton, a neighbor, spoke highly of the Furth’s project and quality of their work. Commissioner Burgoyne moves approval of report and recommend approval to the City Council. Associate Member Banfield seconds. Unanimously approved. 3.ReportfromNAPCForum Commissioner Carter and Sean Gambrel provided highlights from the conference that they attended in Des Moines in July. Chair Perkins asked Commissioners to think about ideas what we could institute or improve on. OTHER BUSINESS 4.Approval of July 12, 2018 Meeting Minutes -meeting minutes of July 12, 2018 were approved unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
