Accepting and Ratifying the Police Department's Application, in Partnership with the Penobscot County Sheriff,
for the 2018 Edward Byrne Memorial Grant.
The Police Department and the Penobscot County Sheriff received notification that $21,623 is
available through the 2018 Edward Byrne Memorial Grant Program. The grant requires the two
agencies share the funding. If approved, the Police Department will utilize $10,811 of the shared
grant funding. The Police Department intends to utilize the funding to purchase and upgrade
equipment for the community relations unit and the criminal investigation division, to cover expenses
associated with advanced training for the department public information officer(s), and the purchase
of a contained narcotic testing system. The police department was made aware of the grant on
Monday August 20, with the deadline for application the 22nd of August. Approval of this order will
ratify action taken by the Police Department to obtain this grant.

WHEREAS, The Police Department received notice of the availability of grant funds on Monday, August 20,
2018; and
WHEREAS, the grant application was due on Friday, August 22, 2018.
Be it Resolved by the City Council of the City of Bangor that,
The action of the Police Department to apply for the 2018 Edward Byrne Memorial Grant , in partnership with
Penobscot County, is hereby ratified and that funds are accepted if granted.
