HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-05-23 88-239 ORDINANCEDate W5-V SS Item No. 88-239 Item/Subject Amending Chapter VI, Article 3, Section 5.3 of the Ordinances of the City of Bangor -- Sign Ordinance Responsible Department Legal Commentary: The purpose of this ordinance amendment is to limit the size and types of signs permitted on properties designated as historic districts, historic sites or historic landmarks ender the Historic Preservation Ordinance. The proposed limitation will apply to properties zoned R-1, R-2, R-3, R-9', R-5, Agricultural and Parks 5 Open Space. Permitted signage will be limited to one nameplate only for each lawfully existing non-residential use (including home occupations). Currently all signs must be approved by the Historic Preservation Commission when they are to be erected in historic districts or on historic sites o landmarks. However, there are no specific guidelines for Historic Preservation Commission review which allow them to specifically address the size and types of signs. This ordinance amendment should be referred to the Historic Preservation - Commission, the Planning Board, and the Code 6 Ordinance committee.
