Item/Subject Amending Chapter VI, Article 3, Section 5.3 of the
Ordinances of the City of Bangor -- Sign Ordinance
Responsible Department Legal
Commentary:
The purpose of this ordinance amendment is to limit the size
and types of signs permitted on properties designated as historic
districts, historic sites or historic landmarks ender the
Historic Preservation Ordinance. The proposed limitation will
apply to properties zoned R-1, R-2, R-3, R-9', R-5, Agricultural
and Parks 5 Open Space. Permitted signage will be limited to
one nameplate only for each lawfully existing non-residential
use (including home occupations). Currently all signs must be
approved by the Historic Preservation Commission when they are
to be erected in historic districts or on historic sites o
landmarks. However, there are no specific guidelines for
Historic Preservation Commission review which allow them to
specifically address the size
and types of signs. This ordinance
amendment should be referred to the Historic Preservation -
Commission, the Planning Board, and the Code 6 Ordinance
committee.
