Authorizing Grant of $5,000 to the Bangor Symphony Orchestra to support the 2018/2019 programming at
the new downtown location, the Bangor Arts Exchange
The City of Bangor's Commission on Cultural Development has unanimously voted to grant $5,000 to
Bangor Symphony Orchestra to help fund the 2018/2019 season programming at their new
downtown Bangor location, the Bangor Arts Exchange. The Bangor Symphony Orchestra provides
Maine audiences with powerful, enriching and diverse musical experiences and education programs,
of which the Bangor region will benefit. The requested $5,000 will aid in the Bangor Symphony
Orchestra’s ability to provide free and low-cost arts programming and concerts at the Bangor Arts
Exchange.
This item was reviewed and recommended for approval by the Business & Economic Development
Committee at its July 16, 2018 meeting.

Authorizing Grant of $5,000 to the Bangor Symphony Orchestra to support the 2018/2019 programming at
the new downtown location, the Bangor Arts Exchange
WHEREAS, the City Council has made an appropriation of funds to support arts and cultural organizations;
has established a Commission on Cultural Development; and has assigned the Commission the responsibility
of reviewing grant applications from arts and cultural organizations, and to make recommendations for grant
funding to the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the Bangor Symphony Orchestra has submitted an application for funds to help support the
2018/2019 season programming at their new downtown Bangor location, the Bangor Arts Exchange; and
WHEREAS, the Commission on Cultural Development recommends the approval of the request due to the
merits of the project and the benefits to the community; and
WHEREAS, the grant application was complete, well organized and met funding criteria; and
WHEREAS, the Commission on Cultural Development and the Business & Economic Development Committee
voted to recommend to the City Council approval of a grant in the amount of $5,000:
Be it Ordered by the City Council of the City of Bangor that,
A Grant of $5,000 is hereby authorized to the Bangor Symphony Orchestra to help fund the 2018/2019 season
programming at their new downtown Bangor location, the Bangor Arts Exchange .
