Wiu.REns, by Agreanent dated December 17, 1970, the City of Bangor leased to the University of Maine a certain parcel of land consisting of approximately 74 acres along Maine Avenue (formerly Illinois Avenue) for educational purposes in conjunction with the operation of the institution's Ba Jor campus; and KIERGAO, staff manners of both the University of Maine System and the City of Bangor have concluded that a portion of said 74 a will not be needed by the University for educational purposes or projected expansions of the Bangor campus; and MEREM, the City of Bangor is in need of additional land located in said area for q saes of creating a business park to accomirdate light industrial, business and office uses; and 4d3QtBA5, both the University and the City of Bangor are willing to cooperate In creating the above-described business park on a phased basis; and UHERES, the City of Bangor is willing to pledge its support and assistance to the University in completing the following: (1) the satisfactory and successful relocation of certain social service agencies presently occupying many old, wood -framed buildings presently existing on said leased premises; (2) the removal of said buildings; (3) a plan for redevelopment compatible with existing University uses and attractive to the area;and (4) a permanent administrative office facility for said University of Maine System. Ci-tp of Bangor aces hereby agree to convey title to the University of one or more parcels, totaling rot arm than 15 acres, said parcels W be located on the easterly side of said 74 acre parcel at such locations as are shown on plans on file in e the office of thCity Engineer, at such tires in the future as said parcels may be needed by the University for educational purposes; and be it further HE'ALVED, THAT, the Acting City Manager, or his successor, is hereby authorized and directed to execute all dccunents and to take all necessary action for parpo*es of conpleting the aWve-described transactions. -_- M , 'IUEREFORE, By the City Council Of the City of Bangor: TEAT the Acting City Manager, on behalf of the City of Bangor, is hereby authorized and directed to suhmit a request to the Board of Trustees for the University of Maine System for consideration and action at its January,1988 meeting, seeking immediate release from said Lease between the City of Bangor and the University of Main of an estimated 30 acres of land, as outlined on plans currently on file in the office of the City Engineer, for the development of the first phase of said business park; said first phase to be developed primarily for the relocation of said social service ce agencies and to meet the needsofother private firms wishing W locate in area; RES WD, TEAT, in consideration of the aforementioned release, the City of Bangor does hereby agree to convey immediately for educational purposestitle to the University of on or tors, parcels, totaling not more than 15 ac said parcels to he located on the easterly side of said 74 arm parcel at such locations as are shown on plana on file in the office of the City Engineer. and be it further �WD, THAT, the Acting City Manager, or his successor, is hereby authorized and directed CO execute all dec;ments and totake allnecessary action for purposes Of NOpleting the above-described transactions.
