Bangor International Airport is a former military base and a site off of Telford Drive, which was the former Air Force salvage yard, has been identified by the US government as a site of possible contamination. For this site, the military has been identified as the sole source of the contamination, which makes it a "Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS)" and the U. S. Government is solely responsible for remediation. Because the Telford Drive site is a FUDS, the Army Corps of Engineer has requested a five year right-of-entry agreement with the City in order to investigate and remediate contamination at the site. The City has no obligation for any clean up.
