HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-04-23 Proclamation (3)PROCLAIMING MAY 4, 2018 AS YELLOW TULIP HOPE DAY WHEREAS, The Yellow Tulip Project aims at smashing the stigma surrounding mental illness and addresses it with the same urgency as any physical illness; and WHEREAS, The Yellow Tulip Project is making connections with schools, community organizations and health organizations all over New England to raise awareness surrounding mental illness; and WHEREAS, The Yellow Tulip Project engages youth to be more vocal and active in mental health awareness and in de -stigmatizing the topic; and WHEREAS, The Yellow Tulip Project enhances self -representation and confidence with issues that affect 1 in 5 people in our state; and WHEREAS, The Yellow Tulip Project brings community together to plant yellow tulips in the fall in or around World Mental Health Awareness Day; and WHEREAS, The Yellow Tulip Project promotes awareness in adolescence and young adults and help others know they do not need to suffer alone; and WHEREAS, The Yellow Tulip Project meant to remind people that even in the darkest of times hope does exist; and WHEREAS, May is Mental Health Awareness month and the first Friday in May willl be Yellow Tulip Hope Day to bring the community together! NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Benjamin Sprague, Mayor of the City of Bangor, on behalf of the City Council and the City of Bangor, do hereby proclaim Friday May 4, 2018 as Yellow Tulip Hope Day in the City of Bangor, .'
