HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-06-28 Proclamation TH PROCLAIMING JULY 7 AS “TOLERANCE DAY” IN THE CITY OF BANGOR WHEREAS, Bangor strives to be a community that is welcoming and supportive of all of its members regardless of race, gender, age, or sexual orientation; and WHEREAS, discrimination of any kind has no place in Bangor; and WHEREAS, the Bangor City Council in recent years has taken consistent positions in favor of equality for all; and th WHEREAS, on the 30th anniversary of a terrible crime, July 7 of this year, we are distinctly and painfully aware that Bangor was once the site of an ignorant and brutal act that took the life of one of our community members; and WHEREAS, Bangor celebrates and honors the life of this man, Charlie Howard, while remembering with sadness the circumstances of his death. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Benjamin A. Sprague, Mayor of the City of Bangor, on th behalf of the City Council do hereby proclaim July 7 to be "Tolerance Day" in the City of Bangor and urge all community members to remember and honor the life of Charlie Howard by being respectful and supportive of their fellow citizens regardless of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic that some might use to discriminate or divide. th Given this the 28 day of June, 2014. ________________________ Benjamin A.
