Thanking the Hildreth Family and WABI-TV for Locating in Bangor
and Recognizing their 60 years of Community Service
WHEREAS, Governor Horace A. Hildreth invested $100,000 some sixty years ago and
created the first television station north of Boston located on State Street in
Bangor; and
WHEREAS, the media family of both WABI radio and television helped to make Bangor a
media center in Maine; and
WHEREAS, when relocating from its original State Street location to a new studio location,
WABI selected another location in Bangor at 35 Hildreth Street; and
WHEREAS, the news and other local programming coverage has been a treasured asset to
Bangor and all of Eastern Maine; and
WHEREAS, WABI has employed many of our citizens over the years; and
WHEREAS, WABI has been a significant media sponsor and financial contributor for the
betterment of Bangor;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, NELSON E. DURGIN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
BANGOR, on behalf of the City Council and the citizens of Bangor, do hereby
thank the Hildreth family and WABI-TV for locating in Bangor. WABI-TV at 60
years old is now the oldest television station in the country under the same
family ownership, and it continues to provide exceptional local news coverage
and programming right here in Bangor, Maine.
