HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-06-24 Recognition (3) RECOGNIZING THE STUDENTS FROM PENOBSCOT JOB CORPS CENTER FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND PERSERVERANCE AS THEY REMOVED THE OLD AUDITORIUM SEATING WHEREAS, the Job Corps program’s mission is teaching eligible young people the skills they need to become employable and independent and placing them in meaningful jobs or further education; and WHEREAS, the Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16-24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training; and WHEREAS, the Bangor Auditorium has provided entertainment, sports and events for Bangor residents and citizens of Maine and beyond for 58 years; and WHEREAS, thousands of families and friends witnessed the thrill of victory and agony of defeat at the facility; and WHEREAS, the commitment to “green” disposal of materials was a high priority during the disassembly and demolition of the old facility; and WHEREAS, the Job Corps supported the Basketball Hall of Fame by providing 60 students and 5 staff members from the construction trades at PJCC, who worked a total of 490 hours, to help disassemble and move the old wooden seats from the Bangor Auditorium NOW THEREFORE, I, NELSON E. DURGIN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR on behalf of the Bangor City Council and the citizens of Bangor do hereby express our gratitude to the students from Penobscot Job Corps for their hard work and perseverance as they removed the old seating from the Bangor Auditorium. th Given this the 24 day of June, 2013. _____________________________ Nelson E.
