Recognizing and Expressing Appreciation to the Volunteer Maine
Troop Greeters at Bangor International Airport
WHEREAS, Bangor International Airport is the initial point of entry to the United States for troops
returning home from deployments and the final departure point for service personnel being deployed;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Bangor is proud of the patriotism and compassion demonstrated by the
volunteers who greet the men and women of our Armed Forces deploying to and returning from military
service; and
WHEREAS, these volunteers, who donate their own time and efforts, ensure that every flight is greeted
and every military personnel is welcomed and given a proper homecoming; and
WHEREAS, May 3rd of 2013 marks the ten year anniversary that the Maine Troop Greeters have greeted
all military troop flights at Bangor International Airport; and
WHEREAS, Since May 3rd, 2003, the Maine Troop Greeters have met 6,738 flights and 1,384,534 troops
and 349 military dogs;
WHEREAS, their professionalism and dedication exemplifies the high quality of the citizens of this
region.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, NELSON E. DURGIN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, on behalf of the
Bangor City Council and Citizens of Bangor, do hereby express our thanks and grateful appreciation to
the Maine Troop Greeters at Bangor International Airport for their efforts the previous ten years. Their
continued dedication ensures that returning service personnel have a memorable, and a hero’s
homecoming. These efforts reflect great credit upon the City of Bangor and this region and continue to
serve as an example to all in our nation of the thanks and recognition due those serving in our Armed
Forces.
