HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-04-23 Recognition th RECOGNIZING CLARA SWAN ON THE OCCASION OF HER 100 BIRTHDAY WHEREAS, Clara Lincoln Swan was born April 28, 2012 in Princeton, Maine; and WHEREAS, Clara was valedictorian of the Class of 1930 at Brewer High School. She attended Husson College, then known as the Maine School of Commerce, where she received her degree in 1933 beginning her career in education; and WHEREAS, in 1939, Clara returned to Husson College where she worked for 34 years in various roles including master teacher, Women’s Basketball coach for 19 years, Director, Academic Dean, Vice-President and Member of the Board of Trustees; and WHEREAS, in 1951 Clara received her Master’s in Education from University of Maine, and in 1982, she received honorary doctorates from Fort Lauderdale University and St. Joseph’s College; and th WHEREAS, on Clara’s 90 birthday, Husson College honored her by naming their new Fitness Building the Clara Swan Center. Some of Clara’s other honors include Bangor Daily News Sports Hall of Fame, University of Maine Outstanding Business Educators Award, Husson College Sports Hall of Fame, WLBZ-2 To Those Who Care Award, and St Joseph Hospital Service Award. th WHEREAS, Clara Swan will be celebrating her 100 birthday on April 28, 2012 NOW, THEREFORE, I, CARY M. WESTON, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, on behalf of the Bangor City Council and citizens of Bangor do hereby recognize and congratulate Clara th Swan on the occasion of her 100 birthday.
