RECOGNIZING AND THANKING THE 4 OF JULY CORPORATION FOR THEIR INDEPENDENCE
DAY CELEBRATION CONTRIBUTIONS BENEFITING THE GREATER BANGOR REGION
WHEREAS, in 1979, the 4th of July Corporation was formed for the purpose of celebrating
Independence Day in Bangor, with members of the Jaycees serving as the original
officers; and
WHEREAS, since 1985 the Bangor Breakfast Kiwanis Club has assumed the responsibility of
thth
overseeing the 4 of July Parade and Fireworks, in conjunction with the 4 of July
Corporation; and
th
WHEREAS, in the spirit of true collaboration, the 4 of July Corporation now consists of members
from the five Kiwanis Clubs in the greater Bangor area; and
WHEREAS, to ensure the success of this annual event, these clubs have donated funds, secured
outside funding, and have organized and staffed many aspects of the Parade and
Fireworks celebrations; and
WHEREAS, while there are there are numerous volunteers who have contributed significantly to the
celebrations, 4th of July Corporation President Tony Bernatche and Parade Chair Douglas
Damon deserve special recognition for their tireless efforts on behalf of the Parade and
Fireworks events; and
WHEREAS, due to the collective efforts of all involved, it is recognized that Bangor has one of the
best Independence Day Celebrations in the State of Maine which is enjoyed by residents

and visitors from northern, central and eastern Maine each July 4.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, NELSON E. DURGIN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR,
on behalf of the City Council and citizens of Bangor do hereby recognize and thank the

4 of July Corporation for their ongoing efforts to provide a successful and enjoyable
Independence Day celebration benefiting the greater Bangor region.
