HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-04-12 Proclamation (2) PROCLAIMING APRIL 11-17, 2010 THE WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD WHEREAS, the National Association for the Education of Young Children has established “The Week of the Young Child” to honor young children and thank parents, teachers, caregivers and other adults who make a difference in the lives of young children; and WHEREAS, the quality of a child’s educational and developmental experience within the first years of life determine their future ability to live a full and productive life as a contributing member of society; and WHEREAS, public policies that support early learning for all young children are not only crucial to a child’s individual future but represent an essential investment in the future economic, social and cultural development of every community throughout Maine and the Nation; and WHEREAS, all young children and their families deserve access to high-quality early education and care; and WHEREAS, in recognizing and supporting the people, programs and policies that are committed to high-quality early childhood education as the right choice for children and our community. NOW, THEREFORE, I, RICHARD I. STONE, COUNCIL CHAIR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, on behalf of the City Council and citizens of Bangor, do hereby proclaim the week of April 11-17 as “WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD” in Bangor and call upon our citizens to observe this week with appropriate programs, activities, and ceremonies in support of this year’s theme, “Early Years Are Learning Years.” Given this the 12th day of April, 2010. _________________________________________________________________________ Richard I.
