HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-01-22 Proclamation Recognizing the Bangor Students Who Participated in the Maine Recycles Week 2006 School Competition WHEREAS, Maine Recycles Week takes place annually in November and is intended to raise public awareness about recycling; and WHEREAS, that week features a statewide campaign to promote recycling and buying products made from recycled materials; and WHEREAS, as part of this effort, schools are encouraged to participate by submitting art entries for the annual recycling calendar sponsored by the Maine State Planning Office; and WHEREAS, Bangor students did well in this competition, with Fourteenth Street School judged as one of the three best in the State and recognized with a $500 cash award; and WHEREAS, in addition, from among nearly 1500 statewide entries, 13 individual submissions were selected for inclusion in the 2006 Maine Recycling Calendar; and WHEREAS, five of these selections, which were recognized by $100 cash awards, were from the Bangor School System; NOW, THEREFORE, I, RICHARD D. GREENE, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, on behalf of the City Council and citizens of Bangor, do hereby recognize students and staff at Fourteenth Street School for their success in this competition. We also recognize Allison Doucette, Katherine Porter, and Hannah Krietzer from Bangor High School, Mariah Arey from Fourteenth Street School, and Ezra Frost from Fairmount School for entries that were selected for the 2006 calendar. The efforts of these students to promote recycling and environmental values are deeply appreciated. Given, this the 22th day of January 2007. __________________________________ Richard D.
