HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-03-08 Proclamation RECOGNIZING STILLWATER METALWORKS FOR THEIR ROLE IN MANUFACTURING THE LARGEST OCEAN ENERGY DEVICE EVER DEPLOYED IN U.S. WATERS WHEREAS, Stillwater Metalworks, a Bangor company owned by Christopher Higgins and Michael McCullagh, is a strategic partner with Ocean Renewable Power Company in developing clean, reliable and renewable electric power from river, tidal, and deep-water ocean currents; and WHEREAS, Stillwater Metalworks manufactured the steel components and assembled a 13 ton, steel and composite support frame measuring 46 feet wide by 14 feet high for a 10,000 pound underwater electric generator which will be the largest ocean energy device ever deployed in U.S. waters; and WHEREAS, Stillwater Metalworks manufactures metal structural components for construction projects throughout the northeast; and WHEREAS, Stillwater Metalworks is an example of achievement through hard work and determination. Starting without any clients in the competitive construction industry, Chris Higgins and Mike McCullagh built a team of skilled metal tradesmen and developed an outstanding reputation for quality workmanship; and WHEREAS, Stillwater Metalworks is a graduate of Bangor’s business incubator, the “Bangor International Enterprise Center.” NOW, THEREFORE, I, RICHARD I. STONE, COUNCIL CHAIR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE CITIZENS OF BANGOR, do hereby recognize Stillwater Metalworks for their contributions to the emerging field of ocean energy, developing predictable electric power from river, tidal, and deep-water ocean currents, and for their contributions to the local economy through the employment of skilled workers and the local sourcing of raw materials. th Presented this the 8 day of March 2010.
