HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-12-22 Proclamation (2) PROCLAIMING JANUARY 2009 A TIME FOR “PENOBSCOT READS” WHEREAS, the Bangor Public Library is nationally recognized for both its quality and for the high circulation levels it achieves; and WHEREAS, the Library sponsors the "Penobscot Reads" campaign, a program designed to involve all Penobscot County residents in reading the same book at the same time and participating in discussions about it; and WHEREAS, the intent of this program is to spread the joy of reading and community during the bleakest days of winter; and WHEREAS, Bangor is a community of readers, as shown by the high circulation of books from the library and the many bookstores supported by our residents; and WHEREAS, as this year’s work, the Library has selected Finding Amy: a True Story of Murder in Maine by Joseph K. Loughlin and Kate Clark Flora;. NOW, THEREFORE, I, GERRY G.M. PALMER, JR., COUNCIL CHAIR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND CITIZENS OF BANGOR, do hereby proclaim the month of January 2009 as a time for “Penobscot Reads.” I call upon all of our citizens to read Finding Amy, to join in discussions of this work, both informally and by participating in the various public events scheduled at the Bangor Public and other area libraries, and to make a special effort to explore the joys of literature.
