Item/Subject: Amend Labor Agreement between the City of Bangor and the
Bangor Fire Fighters to include the Mechanic.

Commentary:
By a decision of the Maine Labor Relations Board the Mechanic
at the Bangor Fire Dept. is included in the Bargaining Unit.
The Fire Mechanic is incorporated into the Labor Agreement
at the same wage status as the Automotive Mechanics at
the motor pool.
All other items negotiated were incorporated into the contract
at his present status.

ORDERED,
THAT The City Manager be authorized and hereby directed to
amend a contract betwen the City of Bangor and the Bangor Fire
Fighters Association, Local 772, International Association of Fire
Fighters, AFL-CIO, representing the employees of the Bangor Fire
Department, to include the position of Mechanic. A copy is on
file in the office of the City Clerk.

ARTICLE 1
Recognition
1. The City recognizes the local Union and its International
affiliates, when requested by, the Union, as the sole and exclusive
bargaining agent for Fire Fighters, Lieutenants, Captains and
Dispatchers employed by the City of Bangor in the Bangor Fire
Department and the Blechanic employed by the City of Bangor and
permanently assigned to the Bangor Fire Department by the Bangor
Motcr Pool, excluding the Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chiefs,
Training Administrator, temporary employees and all otter employees
of the City of Bangor, for the purpose of collective bargaining and
entering into agreement relative to wages, hours, conditions of
employment and grievance arbitration.
2. The City shall have the exclusive right in the operations of
the Fire Department and direction of work forces and to show just
cause for any discipline or change in working force, excluding
those rights which are superseded by this agreement. The City is to
provide all members of the bargaining unit with e copy of the final
contract.

S. In reference to benefits and working conditions, the term "fire
fighter" will include dispatcher and mechanic unless explicitly
limited to fire fighter, dispatcher or mechanic.

Layoff and Recall
3. A departmental reduction in force shall have nc effect o
the position o: the mechanic unless such reduction is specifically
meant to eliminate the position as it relates to Article 1 Para. 1.

ARTICLE 7

6. The duties of the mechanic are those duties described in the
jab description dated 6-24-89 and signed by both parties.
ARTICLE b
Hours
4. The regular work week "or the mechanic, dispatchers and
inspectors is forty (40) hours.
ARTICLE 14
Vacations
9. Effective June 17, 1990, Firefighter vacation slots stall
commence on an employee's first scheduled day on dutyandshall be
taken in blocks of no less than four (4) working days. .kn employee
shall not be required to report for duty during the ninety-six (96)
hours preceding or following the employee's vacation block. Fire
prevention personnel and the mechanic shall select vacations by
the calendar week.

Holidays
4. In lieu of holiday nay for the remaining named holidays, the
Firefighters will be entitled to a vacation of one week in addition
to their regular vacation. Inspectors and the mechanic shall receive
each holiday off in lieu of holiday pay or vacation. (Expires 6-16-90)
5. Effective June 17, 1990, Inspectors and the mechanic shall
receive each holiday off in lieu of holiday pay.
ARTICLE 31
Retirement
3. Dispatchers and the mechanic shall be classified as general
service employees for the purpose of retirement. Their retirement
shall provide for:
a. A retirement formula of two percent;
b. Retirement at one-half pay with, twenty-five years of
service at age sixty (60);
c. Reduced retirement with twenty-five (25) years of service
if under age sixty (60);

d. A m retirement allowance of one hundred dollars (3100)
per month with ten years of service.
