Proclaiming June 1 as Maine Civic Hack Day in Bangor
WHEREAS, the City of Bangor recognizes the value of technology in the delivery of
efficient and effective city services, as well as the importance of open data and
transparency; and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes the role of quantitative analysis in our public policy
discussion; and
WHEREAS, Downtown Bangor is hosting and the City of Bangor is supporting Maine Civic
stnd
Hack Day, which is taking place on June 1 and 2; and
WHEREAS, this event will occur simultaneously with more than ninety similar events
around the country including those in Portland, Boston, New York, San
Francisco, as well as the White House in Washington D.C. ; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the event is to address civic issues and to help solve local
problems using open source data and public information combined with
innovation and engineering skills; and
WHEREAS, the City of Bangor believes in collaborating with the local community to
recognize achievements, show case individual ideas, and connect with other
civic hackers nationwide who are using their skills to make our cities and this
country great.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Nelson E. Durgin, Mayor of the City of Bangor, on behalf of the City
Council and the citizens of Bangor do hereby proclaim June 1, 2013 as Maine Civil Hack Day
in Bangor and encourage the use of technology to solve problems and keep citizens
connected with all levels of government.
