HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-02-23 Proclamation (2) RECOGNIZING THE STUDENTS OF FRUIT STREET SCHOOL FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN THE MAINE RECYCLES WEEK SCHOOL COMPETITION WHEREAS, the week of November 8-15, 2008 was designated as Maine Recycles Week; and WHEREAS, in recognition of this week, the Maine State Planning Office sponsored an individual poster competition along with a school competition; and WHEREAS, Fruit Street School took steps to incorporate the environment into its classroom curriculums, implemented energy conservation and chemical reduction programs, and organized school wide events to spread the message to parents and the community; and th WHEREAS, these activities culminated in a community evening held on November 13 where students and their parents participated in creative activities based on reducing, reusing, and recycling; and WHEREAS, the students at Fruit Street School excelled in this competition through their promotion of recycling and environmental stewardship; and WHEREAS, Fruit Street School was judged as one of the three best entries in the school competition and received a $500 prize from the State; NOW, THEREFORE, I, GERRY G. M. PALMER JR., MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, on behalf of the City Council and citizens of Bangor, do hereby recognize the students, faculty, and staff of the Fruit Street School for their efforts to promote recycling and environmental stewardship in their school and their community. These efforts provide an example to us all of what we each can do to protect, preserve, and improve Bangor’s environment.
